Eating a healthy diet is important for our physical and mental well being. The benefits of eating a good sized portion of fresh fruit a day cannot be emphasized enough. Mother Nature has provided us with an abundance of choice and the list below in not exhaustive:

The little known Acai berry is top of the world’s healthiest fruit. Has twice the cancer beating antioxidants of blueberries and has omega 6 and 9 also contain calcium, fiber and vitamins. It seems to significantly help to prevent leukemia and premature aging.

Apricots Has a high content of beta carotene which prevents free radical damage.

Avocado Is high in oleic acid which helps to lower cholesterol and raise levels of HDL

Raspberries Its goodness is Ellagic acid which helps to stall cancer cell growth.

Mango A medium mango can hold 57mg of vitamin C. This helps to boost your immune system, assist wound healing and help prevent arthritis.

Cantaloupe Half a melon can hold 117mg of vitamin C and has a high dose of beta carotene. Both are antioxidants that help fight free radicals in your body. It also holds 853mg of potassium which can help lower blood pressure.

Cranberry The juice is invaluable in fighting bladder infections by preventing the build up of harmful bacteria.

Tomato Contains Lycopene which can cut the risk of bladder and colon cancers by half if eaten on a regular basis. Best eaten with a little oil such as olive oil as the body better absorbs Lycopene when taken with fat.

Figs A good source of potassium and fibre. Also contains vitamin b6. Useful for women who are taking The Pill (birth control) as these deplete the vitamin B6
